Ratan Tata History
It is an honour to have this great human in our era. This person has a place in every Indian’s heart and in their homes. We are talking about none other than Ratan Naval Tata. He is a great Indian industrialist, an amazing philanthropist and the former Chairman Emeritus of the Tata Sons and Tata Groups. He held the title of the Chairman for the Tata Group of companies from 1990 to 2012. He was also appointed as an interim Chairman to serve from October of 2016 to February of 2017. As of now, Ratan Tata continues to head the charitable trusts. This great figure was born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai.
As per the Ratan Tata history this is an important part where it all began from the Tata Group, which was founded as a private trading firm in the year 1868 by an entrepreneur and philanthropist, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata. In the year 1902, it is recorded that the Tata group also incorporated the Indian Hotels Company that was to commission the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower. This was India’s very first luxury hotel ever, which opened the very next year.
Ratan Tata began his journey at the Tata Group as an apprentice. It was on the shop floor of the Jamshedpur plant. He built his bright career from the ground upwards. He got his expertise and experience by working in different areas across many companies that were within the Tata Group. He eventually became the director of National Radio and Electronics Company Limited (NELCO) in 1971.
The Ratan Tata history also talks about when he started his glorious expertise when he joined Tata in 1961, where he worked on the shop floor of Tata Steel. He later succeeded J. R. D. Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata (JRD) who was an aviator industrialist.

The saying is true that every diamond has a rough past, and our beloved Ratan was no exception. As a little young boy, Tata had a very disturbed childhood. His parents had split, and Ratan was pretty much raised by his grandmother, Lady Navajbai. However, he grew up in the luxurious lap of the Tata Palace. From a very young age, he had a special fascination for the United States of America. The scion went to Cornell University to study architecture and structural engineering.

Ratan Tata’s parents are Naval Tata and Ms. Sooni Tata. Naval Tata was born in Surat but later lived in Navsari in Gujarat. Ratan Tata has two siblings, Jimmy Naval Tata, and his half-brother Noel Tata. His grandparents were Ratanji Tata and Navajbai Sett.
As per the Tata family history, Ratan Tata is the 5th Chairman of the Tata Groups, is the son of Naval Tata and his first wife, Sooni Commissariat, and he has a sibling Jimmy Tata. However, Naval Tata married Simone Naval Tata, who is the second wife of Naval Tata, a Swiss woman, and a Catholic by religion. She led Lakme as well as held the title as the chairperson of Trent. They had a son, Noel Tata.

Ratan Tata’s Education
Ratan Tata graduated from Cornell University’s College of Architecture with a bachelor’s degree in architecture.
Ratan Tata’s education details also mention that he enrolled himself at the Harvard Business School and completed an Advanced Management Program in 1975. He first started his journey with the Tata Group just as an assistant in 1962. He was later given the title of the director-in-charge in the year 1971.
Ratan Tata’s Career
Ratan Tata started his career with the Tata group in 1961 where his first job was to manage operations on the shop floor of the Tata Steel. He later decided to join Harvard Business School to complete his studies.
All the businesses acquired and run by Ratan Tata includes major Tata companies such as the Tata Motors and the Tata Steel, Tata Consultancy Services, as well as the Tata Power, it also has the Tata Global Beverages under their umbrella and the Tata Chemicals. Besides being the chairman. Ratan Tata is also the founder of the organisations such as Tata Docomo, Tata Housing Development Company, and Tata Teleservices. In addition to these, Tata is also involved in hospitality and telecommunication services as well. They have the Indian Hotels and Tata Teleservices to add to the list of companies and this list simply goes on. Ratan Tata has always been the one to prioritise social and employee welfare, he would make this a priority even before financial profits and gains. He had the eye and a dream to oversee the Tata Group, which included more or less 100 companies with a combined sale of more than USD 67 billion. Under Ratan Tata’s incredible reign and regime, the Tata Group scaled to such great heights, with sales and profits at all-time high and it’s worth increasing over 50 times all thanks to Ratan Tata’s leadership.
Ratan Tata is known as the legendary business tycoon. He is currently grooming his next heirs by himself, so that they are able to lead the multi-billion dollar company that deals with everything from salt to software. The youngest heir of Ratan Tata is Maya Tata. Maya, along with her siblings Leah and Neville, were recently approved as new members of the board by the legend himself. Ratan Tata is not married and hence has no biological children.
All his life he has been known for his philanthropic works. Ratan gives a donation of Rs10, 000 per annum and this has been going on for a period of ten years now. This donation goes to the King George V Anti-Tuberculosis League, which initially was started by the Bombay Municipality.
Ratan Tata’s Personal Life
Ratan Tata is a man of many traits and accomplishments. He lives in a beautiful sea-facing three-storied house that he designed by himself in the heart of Mumbai’s Colaba area. You can never say that you know enough about Tata. His hobbies are listening to music, but of a specific kind: old Hindi songs. He loves painting, driving, flying jet planes, playing the piano, reading books, and playing with his pet dog.
Ratan Tata is an efficient trained pilot and holds a licence till day. The facts suggest that Ratan Tata was the very first civilian to fly the F-16, also called the Fighting Falcon, in the year 2007 for an Indian Air race. Tata is the first Indian to pilot an F-16 Falcon. These are actually lesser-known facts about Ratan. The Boeing F-18 Super Hornet Fighter jet is one of his current flights. It is the best-selling fighter jet in the world. The Super Hornet has been developed by Boeing now and has had a massive upgrade, such as a 20 percent larger airframe, 41 percent more range, and 35 percent more thrust.

Tata is a very big pet lover. He made sure his dear pet accompanied him to all the meetings and business affairs. His consistent meeting companion was not an assistant, secretary, or any department head, but rather his pet dog, “Goa”. The Chairman Emeritus of Tata Group has such a soft corner in his heart especially for the stray dogs that he has a special place built for them at the global headquarters of Tata Group in Mumbai. Amongst those dogs is also “Goa,” the legend’s companion, who spends all day with him in his office as well as attends to meetings along with him.
