Hyderabad Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden of Hyderabad is one of the popular sightseeing places that not only offers a refreshing break from the hustle and bustle of the city but also provides ample space and scope for the conservation of the natural flora and fauna. Also known as Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy Botanical Garden, it was developed by the Telangana Forest Department and named after Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy, the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.

The Hyderabad Botanical Garden boasts more than 600 varied species of plants. These are carefully maintained with manicured pathways for visitors’ walking. The vast flora variety helps attract many birds and insects, adding to the garden’s natural charm. The garden is spread across a whopping 274 acres in the Kothaguda Reserve Forest. This helps preserve the natural flora and fauna while giving the people of Hyderabad a natural retreat.

Situated in Madhapur near the Hi-tech City, the Botanical Garden is almost 16 km from Hyderabad Railway station. Easily accessible by road, you can travel via the Gachibowli Miyapur highway near Madhapur. You can also take buses plying from Secunderabad directly to Kondapur.

The garden has scope for 19 sectors or “Vanams” comprising medicinal plants, fruit orchards, bamboo and palm trees, aquatic plants, and various other ornamental trees. The park is designed beautifully with the natural water bodies complementing the natural forests, grasslands, meadows, and rock formations, highlighting the lush greenery.

The bamboo sector is the major attraction of the garden. All the bamboo trees are marked with specific signboards specifying their scientific and generic names. The Palm sector is another popular attraction. The Nakshatra Vanam, Rasi Vanam, and Navagraha Vanam are a few of the newly developed recreational facilities at the botanical garden.

The botanical garden attracts many people over weekends and on weekdays for morning and evening walks. People admire the refreshing respite from the noise and pollution of city life. The Garden management also conducts natural camps, interactive sessions, and guided tours facilitating nature walks, bird watching, etc.
